What if the apocalypse doesn’t end the world?

I’m currently reading David Brin’s newest book, Existence (for review on ICoS). And, unfortunately, I can’t quite get into it, no matter how hard I try. It’s just…really slow. In the beginning, anyway. There’s a bunch of stuff happening concurrently, but nothing really seems to relate to each other, so right now the book’s just a giant ball of random things that happen at the same time.

Anyway. While trying to determine which character’s head I’m supposed to be in at any given time, my brain threatened to go all splodey on me. And since I’d like to keep my brain in one piece (and not sprayed all over my Kindle), I went searching for something that could help me figure out who was who and why they were important. And when that shiny piece of space debris in the opening scene would play a bigger role. Because aliens! And shiny things!
